This tale follows the story of Benjamin Barker, a talented barber on his journey back to London after being sent to Australia on false criminal charges. Upon his return he finds his wife destroyed and his daughter imprisoned. Consumed by vengeance, he assumes the alias of Sweeney Todd and dives into murderous madness with the help of a local pragmatic pie-shop owner Mrs Lovett. Based on the novel by Hugh Wheeler, Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street premiered on Broadway in 1979, winning eight Tony awards including Best Musical.
